I went to Shubha during probably one of the most stressful situations I've ever been through. It started from an online friendship with someone living in America. We spoke pretty much every day, became very close and over time money became involved.

I trusted this person and sent her money on a number of occasions because I genuinely believed I was helping someone I cared about. We eventually made plans to meet in New York and I travelled there from the UK, having spent a lot of time and money organising the trip. When I arrived, I was blocked and she didn't turn up. I ended up becoming seriously unwell while I was there and my family had to fly out to get me because I wasn't in a position to travel home by myself.

After that, everything became a complete mess. I felt like I'd been emotionally and financially taken advantage of and all I wanted was answers and my money back. My attempts to get answers eventually resulted in allegations of harassment being made against me and solicitors becoming involved. I then received legal correspondence full of serious legal language and warnings about litigation, contempt, fines and even imprisonment. As someone who wasn't legally represented at the time, reading things like that genuinely scared and confused me.

That's when Shubha stepped in. The case wasn't straightforward because I was in the UK and the other person was in America, so there were complicated cross-border and jurisdictional issues, with a UK law firm involved as well.
